08/04 – 08/05/2010

48 hours of sleep deprivation, starvation and sensory overload. All for the creation of a 4 song EP of songs written 2006 to present. The tracks chronicle my incarceration and release, faith and the lack thereof, my marriage to my lovely wife and the birth of our first child. I’m exhausted, but the tracks sound lovely thanks, in no small part, to Tate Huff’s help on the mixes. We mixed on a Neve 8068 console at David Huff’s home studio. We were very careful to retain the feeling of the songs and allowed things to stay a little loose, the way they were tracked. I recorded all of the songs in various locations, including my dad’s warehouse and my last few apartments in Nashville, Montgomery and Athens. Scott Baxendale came out and played guitar on “Should Be Heaven” on Tuesday night. He’s a guitar builder and one hell of a player. He also loaned me a 60′s Harmony acoustic he rebuilt to track the basics for that song.

All I can say is, it’s about time. I’ve been holding out on release simply because I wanted to mix this music with the right people, at the right location, at the right time. I never could get the right sounds mixing in the box… So I just opted to wait until I could do it right and I believe it was worth it.
